Ondo Traditionalists Advocate for Traditional Oath-Taking to Combat Corruption in Politics

Traditionalists in Ondo State have proposed that political office holders should take oaths in the traditional way as a means to curb corruption and prevent the misuse of power. The suggestion was made following the conclusion of a four-day Isese festival held in Akure, the state capital.

Ayobami Ogedemgbe, the Araba Awo of Okeagbe and leader of the traditionalists, spoke to journalists about the proposal, emphasizing the importance of traditional practices in ensuring integrity among leaders.

"Isese is a path that upholds the integrity recognized by the Irunmoles. If people make a vow in this tradition, it is believed that no Yoruba person would dare to defy Ayelala or question the power of Ogun," Ogedemgbe stated. "If our politicians are serious about fixing this country and eliminating corruption, one of the effective steps would be to take office through the Isese tradition."

The traditionalists believe that incorporating these time-honored practices into the swearing-in process could help hold politicians accountable and deter them from engaging in corrupt activities.
