VIDEO: Stephen Curry Surprises at DNC, Endorses Kamala Harris for President

 

NBA superstar and Olympic gold medalist Stephen Curry made an unexpected appearance at the Democratic National Convention (DNC) on Thursday night, voicing his support for Kamala Harris's presidential campaign. Although not listed on the official schedule, Curry's message was broadcast on the big screens at the United Center, drawing enthusiastic cheers from the thousands in attendance.

Curry, who plays for the Golden State Warriors, reflected on the patriotic pride he felt during the recent Olympics, expressing his belief that Harris, as president, would restore unity in the country. "Kamala Harris as president will bring that unity back," Curry declared.

Curry, who had previously announced his support for Harris, ended his speech with a call to action, quoting former First Lady Michelle Obama: "The Oval Office would suit her well. In the words of Michelle Obama, do something. Go vote."

Earlier in the week, Steve Kerr, head coach of the Golden State Warriors, also took the stage at the DNC to endorse Harris. The connection between Harris and Curry has grown over the years, rooted in their shared San Francisco ties and similar political views. Harris even visited Curry and Team USA during their pre-Olympics training camp in July.

At a press conference before Team USA's first group-stage match at the Paris Games, Curry spoke warmly about his relationship with Harris. "She represents the Bay Area," Curry said. "She’s been a big supporter of us, so I want to give that energy back to her. We’re representing our country here, and this is a very monumental next couple of months for the direction where we’re headed."

Curry emphasized the importance of positive energy and optimism as the country faces significant challenges. "For her, in this moment, knowing what’s ahead, it’s all about positive energy and optimism, knowing how divided our country is right now. [I’m] just excited for the journey ahead for her," he said.

Curry's endorsement adds to the momentum of Harris's campaign as the nation looks toward the upcoming election.
