Activist Aisha Yesufu has responded to accusations that she is working to undermine social critic Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as Very Dark Man (VDM). These allegations surfaced after Aisha backed prominent lawyers, the Falanas, in demanding a public apology from VDM regarding his controversial remarks about them.
The issue began when VDM released an audio recording allegedly involving crossdresser Bobrisky and an unidentified man. In the audio, Bobrisky reportedly claimed that rapper Falz’s father, Femi Falana, had offered to help secure a presidential pardon for him in exchange for ₦10 million. VDM expressed disappointment that the Falanas could be linked to Bobrisky, even hinting at Falz’s sexual orientation, which many found offensive. In response, the Falanas announced plans to take legal action against VDM.
Last week, Aisha stated that the Falanas should not ignore the situation, as doing so might imply guilt. However, her stance led some Nigerians to accuse her of working with the Falanas to bring VDM down.
In response to these claims, Aisha took to X (formerly Twitter) to clarify her position. She dismissed the accusations, stating, “I have just seen an accusation that all I am interested in is to bring VDM down. As in because I want to do his work or I want to be helping people?”
She further emphasized that no one has the right to tarnish another’s reputation and rejected the notion that individuals should refrain from defending themselves against false allegations in the name of being "the bigger person."
