Security personnel have reportedly thwarted an assassination attempt on Henry Okojie, a federal lawmaker representing the Esan North-East/Esan South-East Federal Constituency in Edo State. The attackers, believed to be political thugs, targeted Okojie, who is also the husband of actress Mercy Johnson, at his residence.
According to a statement released on Friday, September 20, by Okojie's media aide, Michael Ihaza, the gunmen arrived in a Lexus GX 470 with a Rivers State registration number (PHC 253 FF). Disguised as police officers, they attempted to enter Okojie's home under the pretense of having an appointment.
Fortunately, security personnel attached to the lawmaker intervened, preventing the attackers from carrying out their plans. Two of the suspects managed to escape, while the driver and another individual were apprehended. Both are currently being interrogated by the Nigeria Police Force in Uromi.
The swift response from Okojie's security detail was credited with foiling the alleged assassination plot.
