Emily Gold, a 17-year-old high school cheerleader who recently gained fame from her appearance on America's Got Talent, has tragically passed away. Her death is being investigated as a potential suicide.
Gold was found under a bridge on the eastbound 210 Freeway in Rancho Cucamonga, California, just before midnight on Friday. Authorities believe she may have jumped from an overpass, landing on the freeway below.
Emergency services received multiple 911 calls reporting a pedestrian down in the carpool lane. Upon arrival, California Highway Patrol (CHP) officers discovered that at least one vehicle had struck Gold, though the driver did not stop. It remains unclear if the driver was aware they had hit a person or thought it was an object on the road.
No suicide note was found at the scene, and the investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death is ongoing. Emily Gold had recently gained national recognition when she performed with her Los Osos High School dance team on America's Got Talent. Their energetic performance in May earned praise from judge Simon Cowell, and the team reached the quarterfinals before their elimination in August.
