British Man Accidentally Fatally Stabs Himself While Preparing Burgers, Inquest Reveals

A tragic accident occurred in Wales, UK, when 57-year-old Barry Griffiths fatally stabbed himself while attempting to separate two frozen burgers with a knife, an inquest has heard.

Griffiths, who lived alone in his flat, sustained a fatal injury to his abdomen during the incident. Police reports indicated that his body was discovered several days later, fully clothed, lying on his bed. It wasn't until a post-mortem examination was conducted that it was revealed he had died from the stab wound.

Concerns had been raised about Mr. Griffiths' wellbeing after he hadn't been seen for over a week. The inquest described him as a "very private man," and when his body was found, personal items such as his mobile phone, wallet, and computer were nearby.

Detective Sergeant Stephen Vaughan, who attended the scene, ruled out suicide, calling it an "unexplained death." There were no signs of an assault or any foul play.

Detective Chief Inspector Jonathan Rees explained to Pontypridd Coroner's Court that evidence suggested the fatal wound was caused by an accidental injury. He noted that the bottom drawer of the freezer had been left open, and two uncooked burgers, a knife, and a tea towel were found on the kitchen counter.

"My hypothesis is that Mr. Griffiths was trying to separate frozen burgers using a knife, and in the process, accidentally inflicted the wound to his abdomen," Rees stated.

The inquest concluded that Griffiths' death was the result of a tragic accident during a routine meal preparation.
