Bukola Saraki Criticizes Legitimacy of Kwara Local Government Leaders After APC Wins Elections

Former Senate President Bukola Saraki has expressed disappointment over the recent local government elections in Kwara State, where candidates from the All Progressives Congress (APC) were declared winners. He stated that the newly elected chairmen and councillors lack legitimacy and the people's mandate.

The Kwara State Independent Electoral Commission (KWSIEC) announced that the APC won all 16 local government chairmanship positions and all 193 councillorship seats. Following the announcement, Saraki took to social media to voice his concerns.

In his post, he emphasized that citizens had attempted to participate actively in the elections, only to find a lack of electoral officials and poor preparations by the electoral body. He praised the people of Kwara for their determination to protect their community interests despite facing frustrations.

Saraki remarked, "Whatever results the electoral body declared, our people have sent a clear signal to a government that has not made any significant, positive impact on their lives after 64 months in office. It is a shame that the 16 local government areas now have chairmen and councillors who would be in office without legitimacy and people’s mandate."

His comments reflect growing discontent among the citizens regarding the effectiveness of the current government and highlight issues of electoral integrity in the state.
