Michael Anugwa, Deputy Controller of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), has refuted claims that he was suspended by the service. Anugwa, who oversees the Medium Security Custodial Centre (MSCC) in Kiri-Kiri, Lagos, where crossdresser Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, served time, clarified his status while addressing the House of Representatives investigation panel.
Anugwa stated that he has not received any formal suspension letter, dismissing the reports as social media rumors. "It was a social media report. I wasn’t served a letter," he said.
This comes after a statement was released by the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire, and Immigration Services Board on September 30, announcing the suspension of Anugwa and Sikiru Adekunle, Deputy Controller of Corrections in charge of the Maximum-Security Custodial Centre at Kiri-Kiri. The suspension, signed by Ja’afaru Ahmed, was intended to allow for further investigation into the allegations against the officers. The Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, also shared the statement on his X handle, assuring the public that the findings of the investigation would be made public upon completion.
