A prison official has explained why Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, was not placed in the general cell during his time at Kirikiri Maximum Prison. According to Deputy Controller of Corrections (DCC) Michael Anuga, Bobrisky was housed separately due to his female physical features, specifically the presence of breasts.
Speaking before the House of Representatives investigation panel on September 30, Anuga stated, "During his admission, we discovered that Idris had a peculiar feature that did not allow us to place him in the general population. He had female characteristics, including breasts."
A medical professional was called in to examine Bobrisky, and she confirmed that he indeed had breasts, which led the board to hold a meeting to determine how to handle the situation. The decision was made to place Bobrisky in protective custody in accordance with international best practices and Nigerian laws.
Bobrisky spent his time in B-ward, room 2, where he was kept alone for the duration of his stay to ensure his safety.
This statement sheds light on the prison’s management of Bobrisky’s unique circumstances during his incarceration.
