EFCC Denies Reports of Former Kogi Governor Yahaya Bello in Custody

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has dismissed claims that Yahaya Bello, the former governor of Kogi State, is currently in their custody. In a statement issued on Wednesday, September 18, the EFCC's spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, clarified that Bello remains at large and is wanted for alleged involvement in an N80.2 billion money laundering case.

"Reports circulating today that Mr. Yahaya Bello, former Governor of Kogi State, is being held by the EFCC are incorrect. The Commission confirms that Bello is not in our custody," Oyewale stated.

The EFCC had previously declared Bello wanted in connection with the charges and there is still an active warrant out for his arrest.

Earlier in the day, Bello's media team released a statement claiming that the former governor had responded to an invitation from the EFCC, a claim that the Commission has now refuted.
