Jesse Lingard, the England footballer who plays for FC Seoul, is currently under police investigation in South Korea. The inquiry centers on allegations that the 31-year-old was riding an electric scooter without a proper license.
South Korean news channel YTN reported that Lingard was seen riding the scooter in the Apgujeong-dong area of Seoul on the evening of September 16. The Gangnam Police Station has initiated an investigation to determine if Lingard had an international driver's license and whether he might have been under the influence of alcohol at the time.
However, according to South Korean news agency Newsis, a football insider has denied that Lingard was intoxicated. The insider claimed that Lingard was unaware of the legal requirements for riding an electric scooter in South Korea.
"Lingard had no idea that he needed a license to ride the scooter," the source told Newsis. "His mother and younger sister were visiting Korea for a trip, and there was no drinking involved. The team has since clarified that riding a scooter without a license is prohibited."
Lingard had previously posted a picture of himself on the scooter on Snapchat, but the post was later deleted.
Lingard joined FC Seoul in the K League in February 2024 and has scored four goals in 18 league matches so far.
