Governor Adeleke Supports PDP Governors' Decision to Remove Acting National Chairman Damagum

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has endorsed the decision made by governors from the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to remove the party's acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum.

This comes after the PDP Governors’ Forum announced plans to replace Damagum with a member from the North Central region, as outlined in the party’s constitution. The move follows the removal of former National Chairman Iyorchia Ayu in 2022.

Governor Adeleke expressed his full support for the decision in a statement released by his spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, on Thursday. He emphasized the need for the party to follow its constitution in determining leadership succession, saying, "I stand by the Constitution of our great party which clearly spells out the succession procedure in case of the exit of an elected chairman."

Adeleke further noted that upholding the constitution is essential for building a responsible political party, especially during this critical time.

The decision to replace Damagum has heightened the ongoing leadership crisis within the PDP, with some party members expressing their support for Damagum to remain in his position.
