Hillary Clinton Criticizes Netanyahu's Response to Hamas Attack in New Book

In her upcoming book, Something Lost, Something Gained: Reflections on Life, Love, and Liberty, Hillary Clinton criticizes Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for failing to take responsibility for the surprise Hamas attack on Israel on October 7 last year. Clinton contrasts Netanyahu's actions with those of former Israeli Prime Minister Golda Meir, who accepted responsibility for Israel's shortcomings during the Yom Kippur War and later resigned from office.

Clinton writes that Netanyahu, unlike Meir, has "taken zero responsibility" for the attack, in which nearly 1,200 Israelis were killed. She also highlights Netanyahu's refusal to hold elections or step down. The ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas has led to over 41,000 Palestinian deaths, with no ceasefire or resolution in sight.

In her book, Clinton reflects on her experiences in global politics, including her time as Secretary of State and her role in evacuating prominent Afghan women during the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan. She also discusses her time teaching at Columbia University during the Israel-Hamas conflict, where she engaged with students on both sides of the issue. Some student reactions troubled her, particularly questions comparing Hamas to the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) and a lack of knowledge about historical events.

Clinton also provides personal anecdotes, sharing details about her private life, including a humorous reference to naming her midsection "Beulah" and recounting a lively birthday weekend with friends in Las Vegas. The book will be released in the U.S. on Tuesday.
