Prominent activist and #RevolutionNow movement leader, Omoyele Sowore, has strongly condemned Nigeria's Department of State Services (DSS) for issuing an order to arrest him upon his return to the country. Sowore, a former presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), expressed frustration with the government’s focus on silencing activists while failing to address the growing threat of terrorism, banditry, and kidnappings in Nigeria.
A recent memo obtained by SaharaReporters revealed that the DSS instructed security and immigration authorities to arrest Sowore as soon as he arrives in Nigeria. The directive, reportedly signed by DSS Director General Adeola Ajayi, followed Sowore's involvement in the recent 10-day #EndBadGovernance protests. The activist is currently in the U.S. with his family but plans to return to Nigeria soon.
Sowore took to his X (formerly Twitter) account to criticize the government's priorities, pointing out that while the DSS has upgraded his watchlist status, they have failed to arrest Yahaya Bello, the former Governor of Kogi State, who has been wanted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for money laundering.
Sowore's post read, "The current administration, led by Tinubu, has demonstrated an upgraded inability to effectively track and apprehend terrorism suspects, bandits, and kidnappers, while the @officialEFCC has yet to arrest former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello. Meanwhile, the lawless @OfficialDSSNG has upgraded my status and name on their watchlist for arrest upon arrival in Nigeria."
He emphasized the need for significant change in Nigeria, stating, “Nothing can stop an idea whose time has come!” and vowed to return to Nigeria soon, despite the threat of arrest.
Sowore’s comments reflect his ongoing struggle with the Nigerian government, as he continues to advocate for good governance and an end to the hardship faced by many citizens.
