The House of Representatives has summoned key figures, including the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyode, and the Comptroller General of the Nigerian Correctional Service, Haliru Nababa, over bribery allegations involving social media personality Bobrisky.
In a letter dated September 27, 2024, the House committee requested that they appear on Monday, September 30, alongside all officers involved in Bobrisky's prosecution. Those summoned include ACG Ben Rabbi Freedman, the then Controller of Corrections for Lagos Command, Ja’afaru Ahmed, Secretary of the Board, Michael Anugwa, DCC in charge of Medium Security, and Sikiru Adekunle, DCC overseeing Maximum Security.
The controversy stems from claims made by content creator VeryDarkMan, who alleged in a viral audio recording that Bobrisky, sentenced to six months in prison earlier this year for naira abuse, paid a N15 million bribe to EFCC officials to drop money laundering charges against him. It was also claimed that Bobrisky served time in a VIP facility instead of a regular prison.
These allegations prompted the House of Representatives to initiate an investigation into possible corruption within the EFCC and the Nigerian Correctional Service.
