JD Vance Admits to Fabricating Stories on Campaign Trail to Gain Media Attention

 

In a surprising statement, JD Vance, the Republican vice-presidential candidate, admitted he was willing to "create stories" to draw media attention while defending his promotion of false and racist claims about pets being abducted and eaten in Springfield, Ohio. Vance made these comments during an interview on CNN's State of the Union on Sunday, explaining that he felt it was necessary to fabricate stories to highlight the suffering of Americans.

Vance’s remarks quickly drew criticism from U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, who accused him of deliberately lying to shift focus away from key issues like abortion rights, manufacturing jobs, and taxation. Buttigieg posted on X (formerly Twitter), calling it a “remarkable confession” and denouncing Vance’s tactics.

The controversy began when Vance spread unfounded rumors targeting Springfield's Haitian community, labeling them as "illegal," despite most of them holding Temporary Protected Status (TPS) due to unrest in Haiti. The rumors have led to bomb threats against local hospitals and government offices. Vance denied responsibility for these threats, calling the accusations "disgusting."

Despite widespread debunking of these claims, Vance defended his actions, arguing that he was highlighting what he sees as a failure of the Biden-Harris administration’s immigration policies. He emphasized that his issue wasn’t with Haitian migrants seeking a better life but rather with Kamala Harris for allegedly allowing the situation to occur.

Local officials and even Ohio Governor Mike DeWine have rejected Vance’s claims, confirming that the Haitian immigrants in Springfield are legally residing in the U.S. and have been vital to local industries facing labor shortages.

Vance also attempted to distance himself from another controversy involving far-right Trump ally Laura Loomer, who made a racially charged comment about Kamala Harris. Vance dismissed the remark, choosing instead to focus on policy issues, and joked about his own cooking skills, noting that his wife is of Indian heritage, like Harris.
