The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has announced a significant upgrade in its vehicle documentation process with the launch of the digital Central Motor Registry Information System (e-CMR). According to ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the NPF spokesperson, this new system will eliminate the need for officers to stop vehicles to check papers.
In a recent post on social media, Adejobi explained that police officers will now use advanced technology to verify vehicle documents in real time. He emphasized that vehicle owners will no longer need to carry physical documents, as all necessary information will be accessible digitally.
“Once the e-CMR system is operational, there will be no more stopping to check papers. Our officers are equipped with cutting-edge tech to verify documents quickly and securely,” he stated. He also mentioned that if a registered vehicle is stolen, owners can report it through their online profile, allowing the police to alert officers nationwide almost instantly.
This initiative follows a directive from the Inspector General of Police in July 2024 to modernize the motor vehicle registration system, aimed at enhancing safety and security in the country. The police believe that the digital system will streamline vehicle ownership transactions, including ownership transfers and license renewals, while also helping to combat the sale of stolen vehicles.
Overall, the introduction of the e-CMR system is expected to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of vehicle-related services across Nigeria.
