In a new documentary set to premiere on October 11th, R. Kelly's daughter, Buku Abi, shares troubling allegations about her father’s behavior during her childhood. The trailer, which has circulated online, features R. Kelly's children discussing their personal experiences amid their father's ongoing legal issues.
Drea Kelly, R. Kelly's ex-wife, also appears in the trailer, expressing her anguish over the allegations involving their children. She states tearfully, “What he did to me, he did to me. Shouldn't have to do it to my damn kids,” adding, “He’s a monster,” with another voice echoing her distress.
Joanne Kelly, known as Buku Abi, reflects on her complicated relationship with her father, saying, “He was my everything,” while in tears. She describes her struggle to accept the reality of R. Kelly's actions, saying, “For a long time, I didn't even want to believe that he had been… I didn't know that even if he was a bad person that he would do something to me. I really feel like that one millisecond completely just changed my whole life.”
Joanne emphasizes her commitment to honesty with her son, stating, “If my son asks questions, I will be as truthful as possible. I will not be taking my son to prison to meet his grandfather.”
The documentary, produced by Mann Robinson, comes after R. Kelly's career faced a severe decline following his arrest in 2019 and subsequent convictions on federal charges related to racketeering and sex trafficking, which involved the abuse of minors.
