Former U.S. President Donald Trump took aim at pop star Taylor Swift on Sunday, September 15, following reports that her endorsement of his political rival, Kamala Harris, had little effect on voters. Trump expressed his frustration by posting "I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT" on his TRUTH social media platform.
Swift's endorsement of Kamala Harris, made shortly after the U.S. presidential debates, initially attracted significant attention, driving hundreds of thousands to a voter registration site. However, a poll released on Sunday revealed that 81% of respondents said Swift's endorsement did not influence their likelihood of voting for Harris.
The poll also showed that Swift’s backing had minimal impact among a key demographic for Harris—women under 30. Only 8% of women in this age group said they were more likely to support Harris due to the endorsement, while 13% said they were less likely, and 78% reported no change in their stance.
In total, 6% of all respondents said Swift’s endorsement made them more likely to vote for Harris, while 13% said it made them less likely to, with most of the negative reactions coming from Trump supporters. The online poll, conducted from September 11 to 13, included 3,276 adult participants and had a margin of error of about two points.
Trump downplayed Swift’s endorsement after the debate, calling her "a very liberal person" who consistently supports Democrats and suggesting that her political views might eventually hurt her career. Trump’s vice presidential pick, JD Vance, also brushed off the endorsement, stating that Americans wouldn’t be swayed by a "billionaire celebrity" who is "disconnected from the problems of most Americans."
