More than a dozen former staff members from the Ronald Reagan administration have joined other Republican figures in endorsing Democratic nominee and Vice President Kamala Harris. In a letter obtained by CBS News, the group emphasized that their decision was less about backing the Democratic Party and more about standing for democracy.
The letter included signatures from notable figures such as Ken Adelman, former U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, and B Jay Cooper, former deputy press secretary. The group expressed their belief that if Reagan were alive today, he would have supported the Harris-Walz ticket. They referenced Reagan's famous "Time for Choosing" speech, stating, "The choice we face today is between integrity and demagoguery, and the choice must be Harris-Walz."
This endorsement comes as over 230 former Republican officials have also voiced their support for Harris. The letter is part of a broader movement of Republicans defecting to back Harris, including high-profile names like former Vice President Dick Cheney and former Congresswoman Liz Cheney.
Meanwhile, some Republicans, including Trump's primary rival Nikki Haley, have chosen not to endorse Harris. However, Haley has voiced reservations about Trump’s approach, saying she does not agree with his style or communication.
The Reagan staffers, along with other Republican supporters of Harris, have called their endorsement a step toward ensuring a stronger future for the country, focusing on a commitment to democracy for future generations.
