Activist Deji Adeyanju Raises Concerns Over Government's Plans to Arraign 76 Protesters, Many of Whom Are Minors

Activist lawyer Deji Adeyanju, who is also the Convener of Concerned Nigerians, has sounded the alarm regarding the Nigerian government's plan to arraign 76 protesters on November 1, 2024. Alarmingly, 66 of those individuals are reported to be minors.

In a statement released on Friday, Adeyanju revealed that the protesters would appear before Hon. Justice Egwuatu at the Federal High Court in Abuja. This development comes nearly 80 days after the protesters were detained for participating in the End Bad Governance demonstrations held from August 1 to 10, 2024.

Adeyanju criticized the administration of President Bola Tinubu, referring to it as "clueless" and expressing concern about the implications of arraigning such a significant number of minors. He stated, "After detaining End Bad Governance protesters for almost 80 days, the clueless Tinubu government is set to arraign more protesters, who are largely minors."

The upcoming court appearance raises questions about the government's approach to dissent and the treatment of young activists in Nigeria.
