Rich Homie Quan, the popular American rapper whose real name was Dequantes Devontay Lamar, has been confirmed to have passed away due to an accidental drug overdose. The Georgia medical examiner’s office reported that the cause of death was linked to several drugs, including fentanyl, alprazolam, codeine, and promethazine.
According to the report from Fulton County, there were no signs of trauma on Quan’s body when he was discovered. His death has officially been ruled an accident.
Quan's brother initially thought he was asleep on the kitchen floor before moving him to the couch, finding it strange that food was still in his mouth. Later that morning, a woman contacted the authorities after realizing Quan was not breathing and his body was cold.
The 33-year-old rapper passed away at a hospital in Atlanta on September 5. Quan was widely recognized in the hip-hop world, especially during the mid-2010s, thanks to hits like "Flex (Ooh, Ooh, Ooh)" and "Type of Way." The latter became so popular that artists such as Jeezy and Meek Mill contributed to its remix.
Quan’s career included notable collaborations, such as his appearance on a track with YG and Jeezy, as well as his hit "Lifestyle," produced by London on da Track and featuring members of his Rich Gang collective, including Young Thug and Birdman.
His track "Flex (Ooh, Ooh, Ooh)" reached No. 26 on the Billboard Hot 100, making it his highest-charting solo single. Quan was also featured on Lil Dicky’s viral song "$ave Dat Money."
In 2018, Quan released his debut and only studio album, Rich as in Spirit, which included a guest appearance from Rick Ross on the track "Think About It."
