Atiku Abubakar Criticizes FCT Minister Nyesom Wike for Prioritizing Personal Interests

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has sharply criticized the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Barrister Nyesom Wike, accusing him of putting personal ambitions above the welfare of Nigerians. This came in response to Wike's recent remarks in Port Harcourt, where he labeled Atiku a "rejected politician."

Wike's comments were made following Atiku’s reaction to the local government elections in Rivers State. Atiku had commended the people of Rivers for resisting "political oppression, harassment, or the machinations of self-serving godfathers." In response, Wike dismissed Atiku’s statement, saying, “You that contested and failed woefully, Nigerians have rejected you, so pack up and go home.”

Atiku, through his Media Adviser, Paul Ibe, countered Wike's remarks, calling them "lacking substance and driven by personal grievances." He further criticized Wike, stating that his focus is more on his own interests than on the people’s welfare. “If Wike truly believes that Nigerians are satisfied with the current state of affairs under the government he serves, then his priorities clearly lie with himself,” Atiku remarked.

The People's Democratic Party (PDP) Presidential Candidate in the last election also accused Wike of being overly concerned with local matters in Rivers State, ignoring his duties as FCT Minister. Atiku emphasized his own focus on the real issues facing Nigerians, contrasting it with what he described as Wike’s "self-absorption."

Atiku also criticized Wike for engaging in media spectacles, saying, “Mr. Wike seems to enjoy creating fantasies, paying for live TV coverage to attack whoever he wishes. However, we will not stoop to his level. We prefer to maintain our dignity, even while others indulge in the mud.”
