Cuban reggaeton singer José Manuel Carbajal Zaldivar, popularly known as El Taiger, has tragically passed away at the age of 37. El Taiger succumbed to his injuries on Thursday, October 10, nearly a week after he was found in critical condition with a gunshot wound to his forehead. He was discovered in the back of a Mercedes-Benz SUV in Miami’s Allapattah neighborhood on October 4.
A statement posted on his Instagram story confirmed his passing, describing the incident as a "senseless violent crime." The message read: "Sadly, this afternoon, El Taiger was pronounced dead and has now been reunited with his beloved mother in heaven."
El Taiger was rushed to Jackson Memorial Hospital after the shooting, but his injuries were too severe to recover from. Miami Police Chief Manuel Morales described his condition as "very critical" upon arrival at the hospital.
Fans, devastated by the loss of the beloved artist, gathered outside the hospital in tribute. They created a makeshift memorial where they played his music and honked car horns to celebrate his life and legacy. "He was big for our community," one of his friends, Jonathan Esponda, told WSVN. Fan Daniel Andran echoed the sentiment, saying, "He made a change with his music."
Miami police believe El Taiger may have been shot elsewhere and later transported to the location where he was found. "We are certain it did not happen on that corner where the car was found," police spokesman Mike Vega said. Authorities are now seeking a man for questioning as part of the ongoing murder investigation.
El Taiger’s death has left a deep void in the Cuban music community, but fans and loved ones are determined to honor his legacy by keeping his music and spirit alive. "Turn up your music, dance, and celebrate his life," his Instagram post urged.
