Former Super Falcons forward, Desire Oparanozie, has expressed her discontent with Malawian referee Godfrey Philip Nkhakananga for disallowing Super Eagles forward Ademola Lookman’s goal during Nigeria's 1-0 victory over Libya in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier.
Lookman, who plays for Atalanta, appeared to have given Nigeria the lead in the 83rd minute at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo. The goal came after a neat one-two pass with AC Milan’s Samuel Chukwueze. However, the goal was ruled offside following advice from assistant referee Clemence Kanduku.
Despite the disallowed goal, Nigeria secured the win shortly after, with Fisayo Dele-Bashiru netting the decisive goal for the Super Eagles.
Reacting to the officiating, Oparanozie voiced her frustration on social media platform X, criticizing the decision to disallow Lookman’s goal and questioning the absence of VAR (Video Assistant Referee) at the venue.
“No VAR in Uyo? There’s no dent on Lookman’s goal,” Oparanozie remarked, labeling the decision as "poor officiating."
Her criticism highlights growing concerns about the quality of officiating in key international matches.
