Eguavoen Reveals Conditions for Accepting Super Eagles Coaching Role Full-Time

 .

Super Eagles interim coach Augustine Eguavoen has outlined the conditions under which he would consider taking on the role permanently, acknowledging the immense pressure that comes with managing Nigeria's national football team.

Eguavoen, 58, stepped in as interim coach for last month’s 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, where the Super Eagles faced Benin Republic and Rwanda. He is also set to lead the team in their upcoming double-header against Libya.

Having managed the Super Eagles on three previous occasions, Eguavoen expressed the significance of the role. “Coaching the Super Eagles is a massive responsibility," he told Brila FM. "My main focus has always been contributing to the development of young talent. As a technical director, my colleagues and I work to help young players rise through the ranks. I love that role."

However, regarding the possibility of becoming the permanent head coach, Eguavoen emphasized that such a decision requires careful thought. “If I were to accept the job full-time, I’d need time to reflect. It’s not a position to take lightly."

Eguavoen further highlighted that a long-term contract, along with the patience to allow him to shape the team, would be essential. "It’s not possible to win every game, and the team needs time to develop. If they’re willing to give me a long-term deal with patience built into the contract, I’d consider it. Otherwise, I’m uncertain.”

His statement comes as fans and football authorities anticipate Nigeria's performances in the upcoming matches.
