Harris Campaign Amplifies Former Trump's Chief of Staff's Critique of Trump

As the U.S. election approaches its conclusion, Vice President Kamala Harris's campaign is spotlighting critical remarks made by General John Kelly, a former chief of staff under Donald Trump. In an interview with the New York Times, Kelly described Trump as a “fascist,” recalling instances where the former president expressed admiration for Adolf Hitler.

Kelly, who previously served as Trump's longest-serving chief of staff and was also the secretary of Homeland Security in 2017, revealed that Trump had made comments suggesting that “Hitler did some good things.” Additionally, an article in The Atlantic reported that Trump once indicated he desired "the kind of generals that Hitler had."

Harris responded to these revelations by emphasizing what they reveal about Trump's character. “Donald Trump is increasingly unhinged and unstable,” she stated during a press conference outside the White House. She warned that if re-elected, Trump would have unchecked power without figures like Kelly to provide checks on his authority. “We know what Donald Trump wants; he wants unchecked power,” Harris said, challenging voters to consider their priorities in the upcoming election.

Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, Harris's running mate, echoed her sentiments, urging voters to reject Trump and what he described as “Trump’s descent to madness.” After casting an early vote, Walz expressed gratitude for Kelly's timely comments, encouraging the public to consider the implications of Trump's behavior.

Harris's campaign has been active on social media, amplifying Kelly's assertions and the findings reported by The Atlantic. In contrast, Trump's campaign has dismissed Kelly's claims as false, labeling them as “debunked stories.”

While serving in the Trump administration, Kelly defended controversial policies, including the travel ban on several Muslim-majority countries, which critics argued was based on bigotry. However, Kelly maintained that the ban was legal and crucial for national security.

In his recent statements, Kelly characterized Trump as fitting the definition of fascism—a term defined by Merriam-Webster as a populist ideology associated with centralized autocratic government led by a dictatorial leader. Kelly noted that Trump “admires” authoritarian figures and prefers a dictatorial style of governance.

Despite the ongoing controversy, Trump remains resolute in his narrative, recently releasing a campaign ad asserting his dedication to America and portraying himself as a patriot.
