French coach Hervé Renard has shed light on his decision to reject an offer to become the head coach of Nigeria's national football team, the Super Eagles. Renard, who has had successful coaching stints with teams like Ivory Coast and Zambia, revealed that the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) approached him after the departure of Finidi George in May.
Renard described the NFF’s proposal as the most lucrative offer he had ever received, but after careful consideration, he chose to decline.
"I almost took the Nigeria job. I spent days, even weeks, weighing the pros and cons before ultimately deciding against it. It was the best financial offer I’ve received, but it just wasn’t the right fit for me in the end," Renard said in an interview with French media outlet L'Équipe, as reported by Brila FM.
Following Renard’s decision, Augustine Eguavoen, who had previously served as an interim coach, was officially appointed as the new head coach of the Super Eagles.
