The highly anticipated movie Rust is set to premiere next month at the EnergaCAMERIMAGE International Cinematography Film Festival in ToruĊ, Poland, marking three years since the tragic on-set shooting of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins. Hutchins was fatally shot in 2021 when a loaded prop gun discharged during filming.
The premiere event will also feature a special panel dedicated to honoring Hutchins' life and work. The panel will be led by director Joel Souza, who was injured in the same accident, alongside cinematographer Bianca Cline, who stepped in to complete the movie after the tragedy, and Stephen Lighthill, a mentor of Hutchins during her film school days.
Alec Baldwin, the lead actor of Rust, is not expected to attend the premiere. It remains uncertain whether the rest of the cast will make an appearance at the event.
Following Hutchins' death, production on Rust was halted but eventually resumed, with Baldwin and the producers moving forward despite a manslaughter charge initially brought against Baldwin. In a surprising development, the charge was dismissed in July after it was revealed that prosecutors had withheld key evidence related to live ammunition from Baldwin’s defense team.
Meanwhile, Rust armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed is serving an 18-month prison sentence after being convicted of involuntary manslaughter for her role in the fatal incident.
