"I, Robot" Director Alex Proyas Accuses Elon Musk of Copying His Ideas

Alex Proyas, the director of the 2004 sci-fi film I, Robot, has publicly accused Tesla CEO Elon Musk of borrowing ideas from his work. The filmmaker's comments came after Musk unveiled new self-driving vehicle prototypes, including the "cybercab" and "robovan," at a special event on Thursday, October 10. Musk also showcased Tesla's humanoid robot, Optimus, which served drinks and interacted with attendees.

Following the event, Proyas took to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to express his frustration. In a brief post, he wrote, "Hey Elon, Can I have my designs back please?" hinting that Musk's futuristic concepts bear a resemblance to the world depicted in I, Robot.

The movie, which starred Will Smith, featured a dystopian future where robots serve humans, raising concerns about technology and artificial intelligence—ideas that overlap with Tesla's ambitious advancements in robotics and autonomous driving technology.

Proyas's remarks have sparked debate online, with some users supporting the director’s claim, while others argue that technological progress often draws inspiration from science fiction. Musk has yet to publicly respond to the filmmaker's allegations.
