John Amos' Daughter Claims Late Actor's Will Was Changed Without Family's Knowledge Amid Ongoing Dispute

John Amos, the beloved actor known for his roles in Roots and Good Times, passed away on August 21, 2024. However, his death was not reported until October 1, sparking tension among his family members who claim they were unaware of his passing until it hit the news.

Shannon Amos, the actor's daughter, has raised concerns about changes made to her father’s will without the family's knowledge. Shannon, along with Amos’ goddaughter Amy Goudy, issued a statement accusing her brother, KC Amos, of isolating their father from the family during his final days. In an interview with TMZ, Shannon alleged that KC, along with her father’s alleged publicist, Belinda Foster, and a man named Eugene Brummet, conspired to change the actor's will before his death.

Shannon claimed that the family couldn't locate any legal documents proving Foster was officially John Amos’ publicist. She went on to describe KC, Foster, and Brummet as "grifters" who entered her father's life at KC's invitation, accusing them of taking advantage of Amos after he was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and Lewy body dementia in 2016.

Despite these health challenges, Shannon mentioned that her father’s condition improved until around 2022, when he required additional care. KC then moved in to assist but soon began accusing a caregiver of stealing from their father.

Shannon also revealed that her father was cremated nine days after his passing, a fact the family only recently discovered. When asked about the cremation, Shannon expressed confusion, noting that her father had excellent health insurance through the actors' union SAG-AFTRA, and should have been treated at Cedars-Sinai Hospital, not the hospital in Inglewood where he was eventually taken.

Shannon further claimed that KC had withheld essential medications from their father and had prevented him from receiving necessary cancer treatments. She also mentioned that her uncle had repeatedly redone her father’s will, as KC allegedly manipulated John Amos into signing documents to undo previous versions of the will. Shannon asserts that KC had admitted to knowingly manipulating their father and changing the will after the death of their mother.

While KC Amos has yet to address these allegations, Belinda Foster, who was accused of involvement in the will changes, issued a statement to People. Foster denied the accusations, stating that she had represented John Amos for over 30 years as his publicist and had developed a close, familial relationship with the actor. She refuted Shannon's claims of elder abuse, emphasizing that law enforcement had investigated the allegations and found no evidence of mistreatment.

As the family continues to grieve John Amos’ death, Shannon has stated they plan to seek a police investigation into the circumstances surrounding his passing and the alleged manipulation of his will.
