Former Super Eagles defender, Leon Balogun, has called on the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to take immediate action against Libyan authorities for their poor treatment of Nigeria's Super Eagles upon their arrival in Libya on Sunday.
The Super Eagles were scheduled to land in Benghazi ahead of their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier. However, their chartered flight was unexpectedly diverted to Al Abaq Airport, which is more than two hours away from Benghazi. Upon arrival, the Nigerian contingent was stranded for hours due to the lack of transportation to their destination.
Frustrated by the incident, Balogun took to social media to voice his displeasure and demand accountability. “Hey @CAF_Online – surely you’re going to investigate thoroughly and take action, right? Whoever is responsible for this needs to be held accountable. This is unacceptable,” the former defender wrote.
The Super Eagles are set to face Libya on Tuesday for the second leg of their qualifier, following a 1-0 victory in the first leg last Friday. The incident has raised concerns about the conditions faced by visiting teams and the fairness of competition logistics.
