Man Jailed for 14 Years After Robbing and Attempting to Rob Women at Gunpoint

A 26-year-old man, Ismail Tajzai, has been sentenced to 14 years in prison after being convicted of multiple crimes, including robbery and attempted robbery at gunpoint. Tajzai, of Moberly Road, SW4, was sentenced at Wood Green Crown Court on Friday, October 18, following a thorough investigation by Met Police detectives who collaborated closely with the victims.

Tajzai faced charges including robbery, attempted robbery, two counts of possessing an imitation firearm with intent to commit robbery, making threats to kill, strangulation, and perverting the course of justice. The crimes took place on February 21 and 22, when he arranged meetings with two sex workers.

In the first incident, Tajzai brandished a handgun, restrained the woman, and stole approximately £2,000. The following day, he attempted to rob another woman, assaulting her with the handgun and trying to strangle her when she resisted, before fleeing the scene.

Detectives from the Westminster Public Protection team launched an investigation, quickly identifying Tajzai through DNA and fingerprints left at the crime scenes. CCTV footage also captured clear images of Tajzai, leading to his arrest. During the arrest, police recovered the handgun and cable ties that Tajzai had discarded from his home balcony.

Detective Constable Stephanie Clarke commended the victims’ bravery, stating, “This case highlights the support police offer to all victims of crime. Tajzai targeted vulnerable women, believing they would be too afraid to report the incidents. Their courage ensured his capture and conviction.”

Detective Inspector Luke Bacon praised the swift action of his team, emphasizing that their efforts likely prevented further attacks. He added that the victims’ decision to come forward helped ensure that a dangerous individual is now behind bars.

In addition to the prison sentence, a restraining order has been issued, preventing Tajzai from contacting the two victims.
