Mark Zuckerberg Surpasses Jeff Bezos to Become World’s Second-Richest Person

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has overtaken Amazon founder Jeff Bezos to become the world’s second-richest person, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index. As of Friday, Zuckerberg's net worth surged to $206 billion, placing him behind only Tesla CEO Elon Musk, who tops the list with $256 billion.

Jeff Bezos, who previously held the second spot, slipped to third with a fortune of $205 billion, after experiencing a $2.6 billion decline in his wealth.

Zuckerberg’s wealth increase comes as Meta’s shares have surged by 23% following stronger-than-expected second-quarter sales. The company has also made significant advancements in artificial intelligence, specifically in large language models that power AI chatbots. Meta’s stock reached a record high of $582.77 on Thursday.

Zuckerberg has also focused on long-term projects, including the development of augmented reality glasses, as part of Meta's broader investments in data centers and AI technologies. His 13% ownership in Meta has contributed to a staggering $78 billion rise in his wealth this year, the most significant gain among the 500 richest people tracked by Bloomberg.

At just 40 years old, Zuckerberg has climbed four spots on the wealth index this year, continuing to strengthen his position among the world’s wealthiest individuals.
