A NASA astronaut who recently returned from the International Space Station (ISS) has been hospitalized for an unspecified medical condition but is reported to be stable, according to the U.S. space agency.
The four-member Crew-8 mission successfully splashed down off the coast of Florida early Friday after spending nearly eight months aboard the ISS. NASA reported that the SpaceX Dragon spacecraft executed a normal re-entry and splashdown, and the recovery of both the crew and the spacecraft went smoothly.
During routine medical assessments aboard the recovery ship, an additional evaluation of the crew members was requested as a precaution. Although NASA did not provide specific details about the medical condition, the astronauts—Matthew Dominick, Michael Barratt, Jeanette Epps, and Russian cosmonaut Alexander Grebenkin—were transported to Ascension Sacred Heart Pensacola for further examination.
While three of the astronauts were released from the hospital, one NASA astronaut remains under observation as a precautionary measure. NASA stated that it would not disclose specific medical information to protect the privacy of the crew member but will provide updates as more information becomes available.
