Nigeria’s First-Choice Goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali Addresses Transfer Rumors

Nigeria’s national team goalkeeper, Stanley Nwabali, has broken his silence regarding rumors linking him with a potential move to Saudi Arabian clubs and South African giants, Kaizer Chiefs.

The 28-year-old goalkeeper drew attention after his standout performances for Chippa United and Nigeria at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), where he helped Nigeria secure a second-place finish in Côte d’Ivoire. Nwabali also impressed at the club level, keeping 11 clean sheets in all competitions for Chippa United last season.

Amid speculation about a transfer, Nwabali opted to sign a new three-year contract with Chippa United, extending his stay with the South African club, commonly known as the Chilli Boys.

In an interview with iDiski Times, Nwabali downplayed the impact of the rumors on his career. “I wouldn’t say I was really affected by what happened after last season and AFCON because it’s football,” he said. "Sometimes things work out, and sometimes they don’t, but as a footballer, deals come and deals also fall through.”

Nwabali added that despite the speculation, he remains focused on his game and committed to maintaining his value as a player. “Even with everything that happened, I felt like I was going to leave the club, but I’m still here, so nothing changes,” he concluded.

With his renewed contract, Nwabali looks forward to continuing his strong form at Chippa United, while remaining a key figure for Nigeria’s national team.
