North Carolina Gubernatorial Candidate Mark Robinson Faces Backlash Over Past Controversial Social Media Posts

Mark Robinson, the Republican candidate for governor in North Carolina, is facing intense criticism after a series of controversial and racially charged social media posts from 2014 to 2019 resurfaced. In these posts, Robinson suggested that individuals who neglect their children should be sterilized and used language commonly associated with white supremacist rhetoric, particularly when referring to Black families.

One of Robinson's posts from 2014 on Facebook stated, "I have more respect for loyal DOGS than I do for PEOPLE who don’t take care of their children," with the hashtag “#haveyourdeadbeatsspayedandneutered.” These posts were made before Robinson became the state's lieutenant governor, but many came after he had risen as a notable figure on the political right. While these posts have not been widely reported before, they are now sparking widespread outrage.

Robinson, currently embroiled in damage control, has also faced scrutiny after CNN revealed old posts made under his name on pornographic websites, in which he reportedly referred to himself as a “Black NAZI” and expressed longing for a return to slavery. Although Robinson has denied these allegations and launched a defamation lawsuit against CNN, the other inflammatory comments on his social media remain public.

In 2016, Robinson posted, "If you need a court order to tell you to take care of your children, then you probably need an operation to make sure you don’t have any more." That same year, he wrote, "A weak-minded, muddle-headed negro, ALWAYS thinks he and 'his people' are victims."

His inflammatory remarks did not stop there. In 2017, he expressed disdain for Black men and women, stating, “Deadbeat men, the whorish women they breed with, and the undisciplined children they produce are the top three issues... that cause African American culture to be a dismal failure." In another post from the same year, Robinson wrote, “I’d rather be mislabeled a ‘coon’ by a few African-Americans, than be properly labeled a DEADBEAT by my children.”

Robinson also criticized women who support abortion rights, claiming in a 2019 Facebook video that “Abortion in this country is not about protecting the lives of mothers. It’s about killing the child because you weren’t responsible enough to keep your skirt down.”

The lieutenant governor’s social media history reveals a consistent pattern of attacking Black culture and promoting conservative values, with increasing intensity during Donald Trump's presidency. His posts often rely on negative stereotypes, portraying Black sexuality and family structures in a derogatory light.

Recently, Robinson filed a lawsuit against CNN, accusing the network of defamation after it linked him to anti-Black commentary on pornographic forums. His lawsuit describes the media coverage as a "digital lynching," claiming it has caused significant harm to his family and reputation.

As Robinson continues his campaign for governor, these past comments are likely to further fuel controversy and criticism, raising questions about his fitness for office.
