A notorious drug dealer, Shahen Ahmed, 34, who likened himself to infamous cartel leader Pablo Escobar, has been sentenced to nine and a half years in prison. Ahmed, from Stevedore Street, Tower Hamlets, was convicted for supplying Class A drugs as part of a targeted operation by the Metropolitan Police.
Ahmed was apprehended during Operation Yamata, an initiative aimed at dismantling drug supply networks in east London. Investigators identified three sophisticated drug lines operating under the "Killah" banner between December 2021 and June 2022.
On June 28, 2022, officers executed raids at Ahmed's home and another related property. These operations led to the discovery of large quantities of crack cocaine and heroin, over £60,000 in cash, and digital devices containing incriminating evidence.
A key piece of evidence was a video found on Ahmed's phone, where he boasted about his criminal activities and referred to himself as "Pablo," claiming control over the streets.
Detective Inspector Sam Bennett commented on the case, stating, "Drugs are inextricably linked to violence and misery on our streets. They destroy communities and lives. Ahmed's arrogance only drives us to bring such individuals to justice."
In addition to his sentence, detectives from the Met's Economic Crime Unit are working to recover more than £600,000 laundered through Ahmed's business accounts under the Proceeds of Crime Act.
Ahmed's conviction marks a significant victory for Operation Yamata and the ongoing efforts to disrupt drug trafficking networks in east London.
