Primeboy Sues Nigeria Police Over Alleged Violation of Human Rights

Ibrahim Owodunni, commonly known as ‘Primeboy,’ a childhood friend of the late singer Mohbad, has filed a lawsuit against the Nigeria Police Force, claiming a violation of his fundamental human rights. The suit was officially submitted to the Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos, on October 11, 2024.

The controversy began when the Lagos State Police Command declared Primeboy wanted on October 4, 2023, due to his failure to respond to an invitation related to the investigation into Mohbad's tragic death. Following this declaration, Primeboy voluntarily reported to the police the next day.

In a statement released by his lawyer, Akinpelu Ogunbona, on October 17, Primeboy is requesting a court order to remove his name from the police's wanted list. He argues that the police bulletin labeling him as wanted infringes upon his right to dignity and respect.

Ogunbona explained the basis of the lawsuit, stating, “Primeboy has sued the police via an originating motion filed on October 11 before the Federal High Court, Ikoyi, Lagos.” He emphasized that Primeboy is seeking a declaration that the special police gazette bulletin, issued by the Inspector General of Police, constitutes a violation of his right to respect for his human dignity. The lawsuit also includes a request to have his name removed from the wanted list.

This legal action follows Primeboy's earlier threats to initiate a defamation lawsuit against Mohbad's mother, Abosede Adeyemo-Aloba.
