Senator Ali Ndume, representing Borno South, has called on President Bola Tinubu to alleviate the hardships Nigerians are facing due to escalating food and energy costs. In a statement released in Abuja on Friday, October 11, Ndume expressed concerns that certain elements, working alongside saboteurs, are undermining the legacy of the Tinubu administration.
Ndume accused these individuals of advocating for harsh reforms and policies that are not addressing the root causes of inflation and the rising exchange rates, which have made life more difficult for Nigerians. "Bad elements are trying hard to turn the people against President Tinubu’s administration," Ndume stated, "by pushing for reforms that only increase the suffering of ordinary citizens, rather than focusing on stabilizing the economy."
The senator lamented that these same advisers would eventually shift the blame onto the president when the situation worsens. "I believe President Bola Ahmed Tinubu genuinely wants to improve Nigeria and the lives of its citizens. However, some of his advisers may not have the people’s best interests at heart and are leading him astray," he said.
Ndume urged the president to resist these negative influences and prevent the growing discontent among Nigerians. He shared his personal observations from Borno State, highlighting the widespread hunger, frustration, and anger caused by the increasing prices of food and other necessities. "Many families in Borno can no longer afford to eat. Farmers are struggling to transport their goods due to skyrocketing fuel prices, which in turn is making food even more unaffordable," Ndume explained.
The senator also emphasized the prohibitive cost of transportation, citing that road travel from Abuja to Maiduguri has become nearly impossible for many. "How can our people survive under such conditions?" he asked.
Reiterating his belief in President Tinubu's good intentions, Ndume warned that allowing a few misguided individuals to continue steering the administration could ruin the country. "Testing the patience of Nigerians is unwise, and that is precisely what these bad advisers are doing," he added.
Ndume concluded by urging President Tinubu to take swift action upon his return to Nigeria. "The purchasing power of Nigerians is severely weakened, and they cannot continue to bear the burdens imposed by those working against the state," he stated.
