Trump Criticizes Biden Administration During Visit to Hurricane-Hit North Carolina

On Monday, former President Donald Trump visited North Carolina, a state recently devastated by Hurricane Helene, to criticize the federal government's recovery efforts. During his press conference in Asheville, Trump accused the Biden administration of mismanaging resources and prioritizing aid for "illegal migrants" over the needs of hurricane victims.

Hurricane Helene, which struck the eastern U.S. on September 27, resulted in the deaths of 95 people in North Carolina and caused extensive damage, leaving nearly 5,000 roads closed. As of Sunday, over 8,000 individuals had been approved to receive federal assistance from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

Trump asserted that FEMA had been weakened under Biden's leadership, claiming that the agency was doing a "poor" job in assisting affected residents. He remarked, “You got to get a little bit better crew in to do a better job than has been done by the White House.”

His comments included unfounded allegations that the federal government was spending money to accommodate undocumented immigrants, insinuating that this was part of a strategy to influence the upcoming 2024 elections. “They were not supposed to be spending the money on taking in illegal migrants, maybe so they could vote in the election,” he said, without providing any evidence for his claims.

Trump's visit came amid ongoing debates about immigration policies, which have become a significant issue for both political parties. The former president continued his long-standing pattern of framing immigrants as criminals, saying, “Many of them are murderers, many of them are drug dealers, many of them come out of mental institutions.”

As part of his campaign strategy, Trump urged North Carolinians to vote, promising that, if elected, he would eliminate bureaucratic hurdles to expedite recovery efforts and attract businesses to the state through tax incentives.

His rhetoric has drawn sharp criticism from various quarters, with many accusing him and other Republicans of spreading misinformation about the federal response to the hurricane and fostering a culture of fear around immigration issues.
