Legal expert Femi Falana has revealed that he and one of his daughters have been receiving death threats after announcing plans to sue social critic Very Dark Man (VDM) over comments made on social media. In an interview with Sahara TV, Falana expressed concern for their safety following the backlash from his legal actions.
Falana recounted an incident involving his son, rapper Falz, who received a call from Bobrisky while incarcerated. “On May 4th, this individual contacted my son from the correctional center, asking if he was calling through the Superintendent of Prisons,” Falana said. Bobrisky allegedly requested help raising N3 million to secure a special placement within the prison. Falz, however, refused to engage further, insisting that any communication should go through official channels.
In discussing the threats directed at him and his daughter, Falana stated, “Some individuals, whom I believe are mentally unstable, have threatened to burn my office if I proceed with the lawsuit. They have also warned my daughter that if I take legal action, there will be consequences. I have reassured her not to worry, as I am addressing this matter.”
The situation escalated last month when VDM released a purported audio conversation involving Bobrisky and a man. In the audio, Bobrisky allegedly claimed that Falz had contacted him about a N10 million bribe for securing a presidential pardon for Femi Falana. VDM criticized the Falana family, suggesting they were trying to assist Bobrisky following his conviction for Naira abuse on April 12.
The Falana family felt that VDM's commentary misrepresented their intentions and tarnished their reputations. In response, they issued letters through their lawyers demanding a retraction and an apology within 24 hours. VDM refused to comply, asserting that his remarks were aimed at exposing corruption within the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and correctional facilities, not defaming the Falanas.
Femi Falana has confirmed that he will be filing a civil suit against VDM in light of the situation, seeking justice for the damage to their reputation and the threats they have faced.
