VIDEO - Seun Kuti Criticizes Aisha Yesufu Over Women’s Liberation Debate

In a recent video, musician Seun Kuti has publicly criticized activist Aisha Yesufu following a heated exchange they had on television. The argument arose when Yesufu claimed she was advocating for the liberation of women.

Kuti contended that African women experience a level of freedom unmatched anywhere else in the world, attributing this to traditional African customs rather than influences from Arabic or European traditions brought by Islamic and Christian missionaries. He noted that even individuals from Arabic and European backgrounds have expressed surprise at the rights afforded to women in Africa.

During his remarks, Kuti contrasted the status of women in Europe, where he claimed their primary role is traditionally confined to domestic duties, which led to the emergence of feminism as a movement for women's rights. He argued that such a movement is unnecessary in Africa, asserting that traditional African men have granted women significant freedoms.

Kuti's comments have sparked further discussions about women's rights and the role of cultural traditions in shaping gender equality across different societies.
