VIDEO: Timothée Chalamet Surprises Fans at Lookalike Contest, Leading to Police Dispersal and Arrest

Timothée Chalamet made an unexpected appearance at a lookalike contest in Manhattan on Sunday, sparking a scene that ended with police ordering the crowd to disperse and one arrest.

Flanked by bodyguards, Chalamet posed for photos with fans and his lookalikes, many dressed as characters he has famously portrayed, such as Willy Wonka and Paul Atreides from Wonka and the Dune series. Some attendees even mistook his doppelgängers for the actor himself in the crowded event at Washington Square Park.

The contest, organized by YouTube personality Anthony Po, was widely promoted on flyers and social media, attracting thousands who RSVP’d for the chance to win a $50 prize. However, minutes after the event kicked off—and before Chalamet’s arrival—police dispersed the crowd, citing the “unpermitted costume contest.” Organizers received a $500 fine, and one attendee was detained, though authorities did not immediately explain the reason for the arrest.

“It started as a silly joke, and now it’s turned into pandemonium,” said Paige Nguyen, a producer for Po’s YouTube channel.

Fans and Chalamet lookalikes relocated to a nearby park, where contestants were asked humorous questions about dating rumors with Kylie Jenner, showcasing their French skills, and sharing ideas for improving the world.

The crowd eventually crowned Miles Mitchell, a Staten Island resident and college senior dressed in a purple Willy Wonka suit, as the winner. Mitchell delighted fans by tossing candy from a briefcase, adding to the event’s charm. “I’m excited and also overwhelmed,” he said, praising the quality of his fellow contestants.

Despite the unplanned commotion, the gathering highlighted Chalamet’s widespread appeal and the dedication of his fans, drawing attention well beyond its initial playful intentions.
