Whoopi Goldberg is standing her ground against Donald Trump following his recent disparaging remarks about her and the daytime talk show, The View. During a segment on Thursday’s episode, Goldberg and her co-hosts addressed Trump's comments made during two rallies, where he described the EGOT winner as “filthy dirty,” “disgusting,” and “demented,” while also labeling her co-hosts as “dumb.”
The episode opened with the hosts walking out to Christina Aguilera's hit “Dirrty,” a choice Goldberg explained was intentional, referencing Trump's derogatory remarks. "We walked out to 'Dirrty' because it's one of the words that You-Know-Who used when he was talking about me," she stated, laughing off the insults. She noted that Trump had spent significant time during his rallies ranting about her recent interview with Vice President Kamala Harris.
The show aired clips of Trump criticizing The View, focusing particularly on host Sunny Hostin. He remarked, “I think the other one asking the questions are dumber than Kamala. She’s a dummy,” referring to Hostin. Trump continued his tirade against the show, calling it “stupid” and claiming it featured “really dumb people.”
In a particularly scathing comment, he recalled a time when he had a cameo in Goldberg’s 1996 film Eddie, saying, "I did a walk-on for Whoopi Goldberg... but she was so filthy dirty, disgusting, half the place left. I said I'd never hire her again."
Goldberg's response was direct and unapologetic. “I was filthy, and I stand on that fact. I have always been filthy, and you knew that when you hired me,” she asserted, receiving applause from the audience. She reminded Trump, "You hired me four times," challenging him to acknowledge that he was aware of her style. “How dumb are you?” she added, insisting that he should have known what to expect.
Sunny Hostin, who serves as the Senior Legal Correspondent for ABC News, offered a sarcastic thanks to Trump for providing daily material for their show, saying, “Donald Trump, I want to thank you for personally telling so many lies and committing so many alleged crimes.” She extended an invitation for Trump to appear on The View, suggesting it might be a less intimidating setting for him.
The segment was further enlivened by remarks from co-hosts Joy Behar and Sara Haines, while Goldberg added humorously, “You know how dirty I wasn’t? I never grabbed anybody by their genitalia,” referencing one of Trump's infamous comments.
Alyssa Farah Griffin, who previously worked under Trump, chimed in with a “fact check,” asserting that the former president has a "filthier mouth" than Goldberg. She pointed out that Trump's rallies have turned off many voters as they grow weary of his "crazy" and "mean" behavior.
Goldberg concluded the segment by emphasizing a larger issue: “This is what irritated him, not what's going on... Hurricanes, all kinds of stuff going on in our country, but we irritated him to the point where he had to admit he does watch the show.”
Meanwhile, on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Kimmel joined the fray, mocking Trump’s comments about Goldberg and highlighting the irony of Trump criticizing anyone’s language, given his own history with profanity. Kimmel quipped, “Yeah, just like one of your rallies,” pointing out the contrast between Trump’s words and actions.
