The social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, suspended a new account associated with Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei after it posted messages in Hebrew. The account, launched just hours earlier, was suspended due to rule violations shortly after posting a message related to recent Israeli airstrikes on Tehran, according to the platform's policies.
Before being blocked, the new account, run by Ayatollah Khamenei, shared a message in Hebrew that read, “In the name of Allah, the most merciful.” This message was later reposted on Khamenei’s verified English account, Khamenei.ir, which has over one million followers on X. Khamenei’s accounts on Facebook and Instagram were previously removed by Meta following his public support for Hamas after its attacks on Israel on October 7, 2023.
The suspension follows a series of Israeli airstrikes on Iranian targets over the weekend, which reportedly hit missile manufacturing sites and air defense systems, resulting in four Iranian casualties, including one civilian, according to Major General Hossein Salami of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). In response, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian emphasized that while Iran does not seek war, it is committed to defending its territory and people, vowing a proportionate response to Israeli aggression.
On Sunday, Khamenei criticized the Israeli airstrikes, urging a united global coalition to oppose what he called “the Zionist regime’s war crimes.” He advocated for diplomatic, economic, and, if necessary, military coalitions to counter Israel’s actions, framing them as brutal and unprovoked.
