American talk show host and comedian Ellen DeGeneres, along with her wife, actress Portia de Rossi, has reportedly moved to England after Donald Trump’s second presidential win. The couple, reportedly disillusioned by the election outcome, decided to leave the United States and settle in a new home in the picturesque Cotswolds, located in the South West of England, about two hours from London.
According to sources close to the couple, as reported by TMZ, the pair had purchased the property prior to the election but made the final decision to relocate following Trump's victory earlier this month. The source shared that the couple was "very disillusioned" with the results and felt compelled to "get the hell out."
The move to England is believed to be permanent, with Ellen and Portia reportedly listing their Montecito, California home for sale. They had previously sold another mansion in the U.S. for a staggering $96 million.
In their new life abroad, Ellen and Portia will be joining other high-profile personalities in the region, including David and Victoria Beckham, Elizabeth Hurley, and Kate Moss, all of whom have made the Cotswolds their home. The couple’s decision comes in the wake of a challenging election season in the United States, where they were vocal supporters of Vice President Kamala Harris, one of Trump’s key rivals in the 2024 presidential race.
Ellen was particularly vocal in her support for Harris, expressing her admiration for the Vice President in a September Instagram post: “There’s nothing more powerful than a woman whose time has come!! I can’t wait for @KamalaHarris to be our next president.” She also donated $3,300 to Harris’ campaign.
As Ellen and Portia embark on this new chapter in the U.K., their departure highlights the deep political divisions felt by some Americans in the aftermath of the election, with the couple seeking a fresh start away from the political turmoil of the U.S.
