A kindergarten teacher was taken by surprise when she discovered a condom in one of her student’s pockets. The lighthearted exchange that followed between the teacher and the child’s mother, Crystal Starnes, has since gone viral, after she shared it on TikTok.
The teacher’s text to Starnes read, “Let me first say Hudson is NOT in trouble over this lol! He came up to me before recess and pulled this out of his pocket asking what this was.” She went on to assure Starnes that she simply disposed of it and shared a photo of the condom on her desk. Starnes reacted humorously, captioning her video, “That, friends, is a condom that my five-year-old brought to school today.”
The confusion continued as Starnes admitted she had “no idea” how her son, Hudson, came across the condom. In the text, the teacher explained that Hudson mentioned he “just found it” in his pants pocket. Starnes then recalled a recent Walmart trip where she bought Hudson a new pair of jeans. She laughingly told the teacher, “LOL. Omg. That is not mine or my husband’s. I think someone put it there before we bought them. How embarrassing! Haha. I’m so sorry.” The teacher reassured her that there was no need to be embarrassed.
The TikTok post quickly gathered comments from other parents and teachers sharing their own funny stories of unexpected finds in kids’ pockets. One commenter humorously recalled a preschooler bringing in a pad and asking if they kept “Pop-Tarts” in the bathroom too, thinking it was a snack.
Speaking to People, Starnes clarified that she and her husband had no condoms at home, as they hadn’t needed any since she had a tubal ligation. “I guess somebody could have been playing around and pranked somebody by putting one in there. Really, that’s all we could think of,” she added.
The amusing incident has provided a relatable moment for many, highlighting the unexpected humor parenting often brings.
