The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has detained approximately 130 foreign nationals, primarily from China and Malaysia, over allegations of cybercrimes, hacking, and actions deemed a threat to national security. The arrests took place in the Jahi area of Abuja, where 87 men and 26 women were apprehended. Additionally, 17 Nigerians were also detained during the operation.
In a statement on Sunday, NPF spokesperson Olumuyiwa Adejobi detailed the operation, explaining that it was carried out through a coordinated raid on a building near the Next Cash and Carry area in Jahi, Abuja. The suspects were reportedly using advanced technology, including computers and sophisticated devices, to facilitate various cybercriminal activities.
The raid, which occurred on Saturday, November 3, 2024, was spearheaded by Assistant Inspector-General of Police Benneth Igweh from Zone 7 Headquarters, Abuja. Officers from the NPF Zone 7 Command Abuja collaborated with the National Cyber Crime Centre (NPF-NCCC) for this operation.
Adejobi noted that the police are currently analyzing the seized devices and other evidence, stating, “We are investigating the matter and scientifically analyzing the exhibits recovered from them. The suspects will be charged to court upon conclusion of our investigations.”
This operation highlights the NPF's ongoing efforts to combat cybercrime and secure Nigeria’s digital landscape.
