Nigerian Armed Forces Capture Notorious Terrorist Leader, Habu Dogo, in Major Counter-Terrorism Success

On Saturday, November 2, the Defence Headquarters reported the capture of infamous terrorist leader Abubakar Bawa Ibrahim, widely known as Habu Dogo, in the ongoing counter-insurgency operations in Northwest Nigeria. Major General Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations, confirmed that Dogo, wanted for cross-border terrorism in both Nigeria and Niger, was arrested in Rumji Village, Illela Local Government Area of Sokoto State.

Dogo, known for orchestrating numerous attacks and kidnappings in Sokoto State, represents a high-value arrest for security forces in their fight against terrorism. In additional nationwide operations, troops neutralized 187 terrorists and detained 311 suspects, including leaders and operatives of IPOB/ESN in Southeast Nigeria. High-profile arrests in the region included Dr. Nnamdi Chukwudoze and Chigozie Ezetoha, known as “Chapet,” apprehended in Anambra State, along with several suspects from Abia and Imo States.

In the Niger Delta, security forces disrupted oil theft operations valued at approximately N1.25 billion, dismantling 98 illegal refining sites and seizing over a million liters of stolen crude oil. Northeast operations resulted in 103 terrorists neutralized, 64 suspects arrested, and 15 hostages freed, with a large cache of arms and ammunition recovered.

In North Central Nigeria, forces neutralized 14 extremists, detained 25 suspects, and rescued 26 hostages, intercepting multiple kidnapping attempts. These coordinated efforts highlight a significant week for the Nigerian Armed Forces as they strengthen security measures and advance in their fight against insurgency and terrorism.
